المجتمعات المحلية الحديثة والآثار في أبيدوس[AR] إن الجزء الأكثر أهمية في العلاقة بين المواقع الأثرية والمجتمعات الحديثة يتمثّل في الأشخاص الذين يجسدونها. لعلماء الآثار مصلحة - وإن كانت أكاديمية بحتة - في توجيه الاهتمام نحو الآثار بدلًا من الناس، وعليهم أن يكونوا أكثر وعيًا بالمجتمعات المحلية والسياق الحديث لعملهم. لكن بسبب الهيمنة الأجنبية على العمل الأثري في أبيدوس وفي مصر بشكل عام (هناك حوالي ثماني بعثات أجنبية تعمل في أبيدوس)، فقد تغافل علماء الآثار الغربيين مسؤولياتهم تجاه البلد التي يعملون بها، لأنهم لم ينقلوا النتائج التي توصلوا إليها ولم يحثوا على برامج التعليم والتوعية العامة للمجتمعات المحلية المتاخمة لمواقعهم الأثرية. لذلك، لا يدرك السكان المحليين الأهمية الأثرية لمنطقة أبيدوس وإمكانات تنمية السياحة الثقافية المستدامة. وتتمثل القضية الرئيسية في أهمية مشاركة أفراد المجتمعات المحلية في عمليات صنع القرار المتعلقة بالتراث الثقافي والسياحة الثقافية. إن رأي أعضاء المجتمع المحلي مهم جدًا. كما أن مبادرات رفع الوعي والمشاركة المباشرة للسكان المحليين نادرة جدًا. واحدة من أكبر التحديات التي تواجه موقع أبيدوس تأتي من ضغوط التنمية الحديثة التي تتمثل في توسيع الحقول الزراعية والقرى ونظام شبكة الصرف الصحي والمقابر الحديثة كلها بدأت في التعدي على مناطق مهمة من الموقع الممتدة على طول حافة صحراء القرى الثلاث غابات وعربة أبيدوس وبني منصور. وإلى الشرق تمتد المناطق الزراعية وإلى الغرب الصحراء والجبل. [EN] The crucial aspect of the relationship between archeological sites and modern communities is greatly influenced by the people representing it. Although it is strictly academic, archeologists have an interest in drawing attention to monuments rather than people, as there is foreign dominance of archeological work in Abydos (about eight international missions work in Abydos) and throughout Egypt. Western archeologists have neglected their duties to the Egyptian people, failing to communicate their findings or initiate educational and public outreach programs for the local communities. Therefore, the potential for sustainable growth of cultural tourism and the value of Abydos' archeology is not known to the local inhabitants. The primary concern is how crucial it is for local community members to be involved in decision-making about cultural tourism and heritage.
The local community's ability to function depends greatly on its members' opinions. Additionally, it is uncommon to find residents directly involved in awareness-raising campaigns. One of the greatest challenges facing the site of Abydos arises from the pressures of modern development, which is represented in expanding agricultural fields, villages, sewerage network system, and modern cemeteries that have all begun to encroach on important areas of the site strung out along the edge of the desert of the three villages, Ghabat, Arabet Abydos, and Beni Mansour. To the east, the green fertile plain stretches away to the distant Nile, and to the west is the desert and the limestone mountain.
